Open Education Network (OEN) opportunities for MCLS member libraries

As shared in our May 2021 eNewsletter, MCLS joined the Open Education Network (OEN) as a consortial member effective July 1. A recognized leader in helping academic institutions advocate and advance open educational resources at their colleges and universities, OEN utilizes a proven program to engage with faculty in the review and development of open education textbooks.

Our consortial membership allows MCLS to stay current with open education efforts and offers multiple benefits to MCLS academic member libraries, including an option to join OEN as an individual Allied Member at a deeply discounted rate of $525 per year (regular fiscal year institutional OEN membership costs $1,575 per year). Individual Allied Members work directly with OEN staff to incorporate the OEN model at their institutions. Any MCLS academic member library that is not an OEN member may utilize the OEN framework at their institution through MCLS. For non-Allied Members, MCLS serves as the connector and coordinator with OEN. For more detail about the specific benefits of these options, visit our website.

OEN Allied Membership sponsorship

To encourage OEN Allied Membership and support open education initiatives at campuses across Indiana and Michigan, MCLS is sponsoring 10 Allied Memberships (five in Indiana and five in Michigan.) MCLS will provide 50% of the cost for each membership for two years. Each library will pay the other 50% ($262.50 per year). For more details about the sponsorship and eligibility, visit our website.

Applying for sponsorship funding

Interested libraries must complete an Allied Membership sponsorship application form by 5pm Eastern (4pm Central) on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021. Visit our website to access the online application.

MCLS will host two informational webinars on Wednesday, Aug. 18, noon-1pm Eastern (11am-noon Central) and Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2-3pm Eastern (1-2pm Central) to help libraries learn more.
